North Enfield comprehensively beaten

Totteridge Millhillians CC outclassed North Enfield CC’s 1st XI in a one-sided Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League Division 3A encounter!

After electing to bat on a good surface, Totteridge got off to a steady start with both of their openers finding the boundary, albeit both were also dropped. Having reached 99 - 0, the hosts finally lost their first wicket when one opener smeared a Tom Coughlan delivery to Ishan Tilakaratna, who took an impressive diving catch in the deep. However, Totteridge continued to build their momentum, as they reached a respectable 118 - 1 at drinks, largely thanks to the opener’s unbeaten half century. Following drinks, Totteridge continued to accumulate and both of their batters reached magnificent milestones, as the number three reached 50 and the opener moved onto 100, surviving a second dropped catch when on 94. With both batters well set, Totteridge started to accelerate and move through the gears. Despite Thomas Munt removing the number three for 87 via another diving Tilakaratna catch, the visitors continued to be put to the sword, as the Totteridge opener passed 150 with an exhibition of shots that would not look out of place in any professional’s handbook. Having surpassed the previous Division 3 (A or B) highest score of 181, the Totteridge opener finally fell for a stunning 198, ramping a Coughlan delivery straight to Adam Jessop at short fine leg, but despite Coughlan claiming a third wicket via an LBW, the hosts were still able to post a daunting 369 - 4 from their 50 overs.

The fall of three early wickets left North Enfield with an uphill battle to claim any batting points or indeed positives from a disastrous day. Coughlan (34) and Tilakaratna (31) steadied the ship for the visitors and were able to restore some pride, but the departure of Tilakaratna saw a further two wickets fall and left North Enfield reeling at six wickets down. Some impressive lower order hitting from Jessop and Will Griesdale saw the tail wag, but after they both fell along with Coughlan, the visitors slumped to 133 all out and a humiliating 236 run defeat, in which they only claimed six points.
