North Enfield Cricket Club’s 2s put in a complete all round performance to beat Baldock on Saturday and move up to 8th in Division 9 East of the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League!
A solid team performance with the ball saw Baldock bowled out for 132, after captain Garry Orton’s earlier 49* lead the hosts to an impressive total of 182.
Despite losing the toss and an early wicket, North Enfield got off to a relatively fast start as James Scott counter attacked, punishing any errors in line or length as he had done against the same opposition earlier on in the season. However, he fell for 30 and Fieaz Tazower departed soon after, meaning that opener David Brandon and Orton had to rebuild for the visistors.
They built a steady platform together and when Brandon fell (24), Oliver Scott injected some impetus into the visitors’ innings. His cameo of 13 and some good late boundary hitting and running from Deleep Sathyanarayana (18*) and Orton, who finished on 49*, allowed North Enfield to push themselves up towards a tricky total of 182.
Oliver and Alex Scott bowled well from the off and immediately intensified the pressure on the Baldock batters. Three quick strikes from Alex Scott in his four overs reduced the hosts to 36 - 3 and put them in deep trouble.
A period of relative quiet followed with David Malleson and Sathyanarayana turning the screw and whizzing through to drinks with limited change to the scoreboard. The pressure eventually paid soon after the break, as two successive batters spooned catches up to Oliver Scott off Sathyanarayana.
The game was then ultimately over as a contest soon after, with Richard Lee bowling two batters in an over to reduce Baldock to 86 - 7. A brief partnership then followed, before Orton capped off a fine all round performance with two wickets and Lee put the seal on an impressive 50 run victory by splattering the stumps of the Baldock number eleven.
Elsewhere, North Enfield’s Friendly XI saw their midweek fixture against East Herts Cavaliers eventually abandoned due to the weather, despite a maiden 100 from Zane Green and huge partnership of 165 between the former and Fieaz Tazower (75*), before 77* from Orton guided the Friendly XI to a Sunday victory over Newham. Unfortunately, North Enfield’s 1s lost a low scoring thriller at home to Cheshunt Rosedale by four wickets.
